Autonomous self-powered boats could create the Internet of Things (IoT) of the ocean. That’s the verdict from clean tech company Open Ocean Robotics, which is developing solar and wind powered autonomous boats to monitor for oil spills, research animals, detect illegal fishermen and provide a constant stream of live data about ocean temperatures, sea level and currents.
