Please join MTS to hear Fritz Stahr of Open Ocean Robotics present the Uncrewed Surface Vehicle Data Xplorer Uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs) represent an affordable and safe data-collection platforms with multiple research and monitoring applications. Onboard renewal power systems, like solar, allow for consistent and long-term observations without the logistical limitations or emissions associated with vessel use. Doors will open at 5:30pm, talk to start around 6:30pm.

Towards Predicting Whale Movement 

August 31st – September 1, 2022 – Simon Fraser University, Vancouver BC

With over 50 participants, the workshop brought together researchers and conservation managers from all sectors of society including government, first nations, industry, academia, and NGOs, to discuss the use of hydrophone data for detecting whales to enhance conservation efforts in the Salish Sea, especially for endangered and threatened species such as the Southern Resident killer whales. Representing OOR, lead data scientist Oliver Kirsebom gave a presentation on the use of machine learning for automated detection and classification of acoustic signals.
